Professor Amy Dickman

Amy is the Joint CEO of Lion Landscapes, where she co-leads the organisation's mission to create a future in which people and large carnivores can thrive together. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience working on large carnivores across Africa, Amy combines scientific research with practical, community-led conservation to develop solutions that reduce conflict between people and wildlife while delivering benefits for local communities.

Amy co-founded Lion Landscapes with Alayne Cotterill in 2020 to turn conservation science into practical, community-led action. Under her leadership, the organisation has pioneered innovative coexistence approaches that are now supporting communities across East Africa and informing conservation efforts internationally.

Alongside her role at Lion Landscapes, Amy is Director of the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU) at the University of Oxford. She holds an MSc from the University of Oxford and a PhD from University College London, and has published more than 130 scientific papers and book chapters on large carnivore ecology and conservation.

Amy serves on several international conservation groups, including the IUCN Cat Specialist Group, the Human-Wildlife Conflict Collaboration, the African Lion Working Group and the IUCN Human-Wildlife Conflict & Coexistence Specialist Group. She is also a National Geographic Explorer. Her work has been recognised with numerous awards, including the Rabinowitz-Kaplan Prize for the Next Generation in Wild Cat Conservation and the St. Louis Zoo Conservation Award.​

When she's not working, Amy can usually be found with her oversized German Shepherd dog, Inky, and sometimes spares time for her two human children as well.
