Ana Grau Valenciano
Research & Monitoring Lead
Ana works part-time with Lion Landscapes, where she oversees research and monitoring activities across Tanzania and Kenya, including GPS collaring, camera trapping, and survey work, ensuring consistency, rigour, and quality across projects. She also supports the training and development of field teams, students, and researchers, and contributes to scientific publications, funding proposals, and technical reports.
Ana has worked with Lion Landscapes and its predecessor organisation for over eight years, progressing through operational and systems-focused leadership roles before moving into her current research-focused position. With more than 15 years of experience in the technical and operational leadership of international wildlife conservation programmes across more than five countries, she brings a combination of applied science, team management, and fundraising expertise to her work.
Ana holds a degree in Biology and a Master's in Conservation Biology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and is currently completing a PhD in Fundamental and Systems Biology at the Universidad de Granada, focused on characterising human-large carnivore conflict in Ruaha, Tanzania. Alongside her work with Lion Landscapes, she also contributes to CoCo (Co-creating Coexistence), a Horizon Europe project supporting sustainable pastoralism and the integration of large carnivores and livestock across 12 European countries.
Outside of work, Ana is a keen birdwatcher.
