Gabriel Ole Nyausi
Field Programmes Manager, Laikipia
Gabriel is Field Programmes Manager for Lion Landscapes in Laikipia, Kenya, where he leads the implementation of conservation programmes across the landscape. With more than 15 years of experience in community conservation, Gabriel brings expertise in community engagement, partnership-building and conservation programme management, with a career dedicated to strengthening coexistence between people and wildlife.

Gabriel joined Lion Landscapes in 2022 as Community Projects Manager before being promoted to his current role in 2026. Throughout his career, he has worked extensively with communities across northern and coastal Kenya, supporting locally driven conservation initiatives and building partnerships between communities, conservation organisations and government institutions.

Gabriel began his conservation journey in 2004 as Community Manager for the Il Ngwesi Community Conservancy, before joining the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), where he spent eight years progressing through several leadership roles, including Regional Director for Greater Sera. His experience spans community conservation, landscape-level conservation planning and government engagement, including supporting conservation efforts during Kenya’s devolution process.
He holds a Diploma in Community Development and draws on his earlier background in teaching to support training, mentorship and knowledge-sharing within conservation teams and communities. Gabriel is passionate about ensuring conservation delivers meaningful benefits for people, and his hands-on approach reflects his belief that lasting solutions must be developed with communities on the ground.
When he’s not working, Gabriel likes interacting with nature walking in the forest. He always likes travelling and also likes herding out in the wild. Dancing is part of him as well once he gets an opportunity.
