Joseph Francis Kaduma
Research Manager
Joseph is Research Manager at Lion Landscapes, based in Ruaha, Tanzania, where he leads ecological and social research activities that inform conservation decision-making across key landscapes. He oversees research teams, coordinates data collection and management, and supports studies focused on wildlife populations, human-wildlife interactions, and community-based conservation approaches.
Since joining Lion Landscapes four years ago, Joseph has helped coordinate a wide range of research initiatives, including household surveys, wildlife transects, human-wildlife conflict monitoring, Community Camera Trapping (CCT) programmes and ecological camera-trap surveys. His work combines field research, data analysis and team coordination to generate the evidence needed to strengthen large carnivore conservation strategies across the Ruaha-Rungwa and Selous-Nyerere landscapes.

Joseph's career has taken him from community-based research in public health and conservation compliance to his current role, where he collaborates with senior researchers on long-term studies of large carnivore ecology and coexistence. His current research focuses on the long-term monitoring of large carnivore populations across the Ruaha-Rungwa landscape, combining camera-trap surveys, spoor surveys, and GPS collaring to generate data that informs conservation management decisions.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Science and Conservation from the University of Dar es Salaam. Passionate about finding practical solutions for conservation challenges, Joseph is driven by the belief that protecting wildlife and improving people’s lives should go hand in hand.

Outside of work, Joseph is happiest behind the wheel on a long drive, out on safari, or travelling with his camera in hand, always looking for the next great shot.
